I would like to suggest that the CakePHP core team deserve one huge pat on the back.
I developed a website in CakePHP v1.3 but to be perfectly honest, I got fed up with the Authentication system and coupling it with ACL, I really could not get it to work the way I wanted it to. For the last 6 months or so I have been looking at the Yii framework. I had read very good reviews of it and it came with a User management system that seemed to fit my needs precisely. I loved the idea of the themes and I originally loved the idea of it's Widget framework and how it integrated so well with JQuery. But ... it was not Cake !!!! I will not go in to what I did *not* like about Yii since this is not the place to do so, but I decided to have another look at cake. I had another look to see how Cake had progressed last week and was gobsmacked that so many of the nice things I saw in Yii to do with layouts and themes had made it (in a CakePHP style) into the Cake 2.x streams. Other frameworks are NOT streets ahead of CakePHP and considering other frameworks are backed by companies and full time staff.... I find this rather *Awesome* !!! Just thought I would put praise where it is well and truly due. -- Our newest site for the community: CakePHP Video Tutorials http://tv.cakephp.org Check out the new CakePHP Questions site http://ask.cakephp.org and help others with their CakePHP related questions.
