I worked for a place that uses cake for the American Idol voting analytics system. Plans to use with X factor as well. Their pockets seemed deep.
I think the observation you made about cake users is an interesting insight. Wordpress I use and love but the reason it's showcased so much is because it's ease of use allows people with the mentality to showcase it to do so. Rails is pretty much the same deal as cake cept for it being based on Ruby. As far as framework boredom goes I think learning another language is going to be your best bet after you've mastered your instrument. Drupal? At least cake allows you to make your own mess. I really don't understand why people find joomla and drupal brilliant. Sure, the object oriented MVC stuff is cool but if your that competent why not build your own system... Rather than putting the click cuffs on. The click ratio on drupal and joomla makes me not understand why they are so popular. I think cake has a lot going for it. Zends library is nice alongside cake... What's the fuss? The worst is when someone adopts a framework and doesn't scale with it...
