For me, I had a transparent printer icon on 13.04. It was visible on launch (and grey), and I didn't notice immediately when it became transparent. I'm pretty sure it was completely invisible. I can't reproduce it right now (don't have a printer at home). maybe we should add some debug outputs when something changes in the applet (if not already the case), to track this bug ?
