Hey Scott,

As with everything, it depends on what you want to do.  I own both a 7300 and a 991, and I can tell you that if you only want it to do HF and don't have a need for portability, I'd go with the 7300 all day long.  The reason is simple: ease of use.  Sure, you can learn all of Yaesu's complicated menus or constantly flip through your Nifty Guide, but the 7300's layout and operation is just so much more intuitive.  Add the outstanding customizable screen/waterfall, and it's a slam dunk (for me).  I'm not a contester, so I have no need for the superior receiver in the DX10 (not that it wouldn't be nice, hihi).

In fact, I like the Icom HF interface so much that I recently bought an IC-705.  And even though it doesn't have an internal tuner and only puts out 10W, I can't see a time when I'll break out the (also shack-in-a-box) 991 again, except to sell it.  The 705 is just so much more fun to operate.

And I'm a long-time Yaesu guy.  😮

Best wishes, and have fun.
