I will not be able to attend this event.    However I will still be POTAing,
just in Oregon.   I plan to activate Newberry Crater Volcanic National Monument
K-4390, which is in the Deschutes National Forest K-4378.    Plan to be on
20meters but check for my spot for details .

Temps here are going to be low of 58 with a high of 93.  The best part,
humidity of 28%

Hope to hear you guys

Hello everyone!

I want to remind you all that we will have another great BVARC POTA event
coming up at Stephen F. Austin State Park THIS SUNDAY (July 23rd 10am - 5pm).
It's going to be a really hot one this weekend, temperatures have been over
100F for the past week or so, but if the forecast is to be believed, it might
dip just a little to double digits for us on Sunday. There's a slight chance of
rain later in the day, but we will be there and prepared for whatever happens.
We'll have some great food as well, with our usual complement of sausages,
chips, and LOTS of water. It should be a really great time with friends, some
delicious food, and of course some fun on the radio!

Photos from our last POTA event at Brazos Bend SP in May. Marc KI5ZHO made us
some fantastic fajitas, and Jayant KG5LJZ came by to see how we run our event
(see his article about BVARC POTA on the Johnson Space Center ARC website here).

For this Sunday at Stephen F. Austin we expect to set up at the day use area
near the front of the park (the first left after the ranger station). You can
ask the park rangers how to find us, or reach out to us on 146.520MHz FM
Simplex while in the vicinity of the park.

The important details:
    * Park access is $5. Ask for a day use area pass. More info on:
tpwd.texas.gov
    * IF you have a Texas State Park Pass, then admission for the day is FREE.
    * ALSO, if you are over 65 years old, you can request a Senior Partial
Texas Parklands Passport to get half-off of park admission (rounded to the
nearest dollar). Speak to the Park Rangers when you arrive or visit
tpwd.texas.gov for details.
    * We will have at least 4 HF radios (40m, 20m, 15m, 10m, and possibly 17m
or 80m) that you can use if you don't have your own. So all you need to bring
is yourself, some water, and maybe some snacks.
    * If you'd like to bring your own radio, we have a few antennas you can use
and the appropriate filters. But again, you don't need to bring any equipment.
    * Technician class licensees ARE WELCOME! You CAN operate the stations on
ALL HF bands that are available and get POTA credit for contacts you make. You
will be required to use the club call sign (ask me or Anthony W5LIC for details
upon arrival).
    * If you're a Tech class license holder and would like to operate on 10m
you may do so under your own call sign if the station is open (10m band
conditions have been favorable lately).
    * Of course, you do not have to operate the radios, you can just come out
for a fun time with your fellow hams.
    * 10 contacts are all that are required to "activate" the park. You can log
with paper, or with any apps you prefer (we recommend the HAMRS App).
    * Sign up on the POTA.app website to upload your logs after the event.

Sunday July 23rd 2023, 10am - 5pm

If you've been curious about trying CW, FT8, or Winlink (VARA HF, 2m Packet
etc.) we will have those as optional modes you can try (more to come in the
future). As before, if you can't make this event, we are doing them every
month. POTA is a lot of fun, and we hope to see you out there with us this
