I had an outside receptacle that had been invaded by ants that tripped the GFCI breaker in the box. At first I though it was the breaker, and replaced with a new breaker. When this did not fix the problem I called an electrician. He cleaned out the socket box and replaced the socket, then installed a commercial weatherproof cover on the socket. That was 10 years ago. Problem solved.
