Folks- ( Please read Scott's message below mine first - he wants you to register displeasure with Kroger regarding their recent senior discount elimination )
While I agree that those of us who have considerable years should get the discount (senior discount described by Scott below ), I would point out that our small family finds that particular brand to be better than others for certain items and discounts: ( & no, I do not work for Kroger nor own stock in them ) Types of items ( in my humble opinion, sometimes a better buy- and why ): Produce: Typically more varied and sometimes fresher- very seldom spoiled on receipt- unfortunately- sometimes under-ripe, can be aged by leaving at room temp (melons, etc) Meats: Until recently- more likely to have choice cuts ( better marbled, as in not as tough )- resulting in less waste- still requires thoughtfull inspection - Big W improved Bottled Juices: House brand Aloe, Iced Tea ( canned ), etc. often less expensive than competitors for same product & quality Ice Cream: Better selection, premium "Private" label compares well in quality and price Coffee: Few other stores carry Nescafe's Taster's Choice French Roast at all, or at lower price Not included: Dry & Canned goods with a few exceptions- generic "Pssst" label canned goods Discounts: Ten cents off per gallon gasoline discount for monthly ( no carryover ) purchase earning 100 shopper points ( around $100.00 ). This amounts to $1.00 per ten gallons. Three cents off per gallon gasoline discount for loyalty card holders without 100 points. Loyalty card free for registration of address, provokes U.S. mail of coupons. Free items ( usually worth $1.00 or less ) on Fridays if you also register for digital coupons ( tied to loyalty card, additional discounts ). Charity: There are a number of charities which ask that you name them, so that a portion of your sales will be donated by Kroger to charity. What does this have to do with Ham radio, you ask? Most of us are old enough to get the senior discount. The rest would eventually qualify, if they stick around long enough. Happy shopping, and please try to steer clear of that extra salt- too many seniors with heart disease related to blood pressure- you knew that... 73 Jon L.
