It was my understanding from one of the guys in service ( and he was hard to
miss in the aisle ) that the retail store would close, yet they might try to
continue service off-site.
Since Ed at River Oaks seems to be in contact with the HARS previous owners,
you may wish to consult him as to whether you can approach the HARS staff for
warranty or non-warranty service. Of course, River Oaks Car Stereo would
welcome your installation and/or retail business. They do have some amateur
radio related items in addition to car stereos, yet you may be wise to call
ahead unless you are just looking for general deals and/or used equipment.
Short of that, there are a few Radio Shack stores that did not go out of
business- and both Micro-Center and Fry's have a limited selection of component
parts. Some of the citizen's band radio shops ( especially near truck stops )
may have technicians who could sell knobs, cable, and the odd RF transistor.
Just expect that they also cannot compete with mail order prices over the
Internet. Yet if time is an issue... the above ideas may help those who do
their own repairs or need to find a technician...
I would consider starting my own 'Veteran-owned' business, yet I am currently
working under contract with Cheryl Garcia & Company for a two-way radio
manufacturer's service in Houston. For now, I like the job- yet it taxes my
dexterity- SMT components and hot air rework.

The coax supply company that advertises in BVARC newsletter for one,
there are also a few antenna tower suppliers that have evolved from CB
radio & military surplus stores, this LEAVES: River Oaks Auto Stereo as
the only HAM equipment shop in greater Houston area...

Guess those who need equipment repairs will now have to pack up radios
or related gear and ship out of town..!
