I want to send out this friendly reminder that the upcoming 10-10 Summer SSB Contest will start August 1st at 0000Z (Friday night 7:00 pm) and end on August 2nd at 2359Z (Sunday night at 6:59 pm). I invite you to join us in participation this year. Paid up membership in 10-10 is not required to participate, but if you would like to compete for awards or contribute to the overall club score of the local Houston S.H.O.T. (Space Houston on Ten) then you will need to be paid up.
If you haven't participated in a 10-10 contest in the past, the exchange is your call, name, state and 10-10 number. Each contact with a station with a 10-10 number is worth 2 points; contact with stations without 10-10 numbers are worth 1 point. Pretty simple. There are a number of contest programs available which support the contest, including K4HAV's Win1010, N1MM+ (UDC), N3FJP and a few others. K4HAV and N1MM+ have call history files available which will automatically fill in your log fields when you type in a call. Or you can turn in a paper log which is available on the back of the 10-10 news or on the 10-10 website. (I really recommend using a dedicated contest program as it makes things so much easier and efficient.) The rules are at http://www.ten-ten.org/Forms/QSO%20Party%20Rules.pdf . After the contest, cabrillo or adif logs can be uploaded to the scoring website set up by David, KJ4IZW. Go to http://www.ten-ten.org/index.php/activity/2013-07-22-20-26-48/uploading-logs -howto for instructions. The Houston SHOT Chapter normally holds special nets on Friday and Saturday nights to help local members work each other. The net will meet on 28.488 and 8pm local Houston time both nights. Note that 10-10 contests are unique in that the main point of the contest is just to promote activity on ten meters. Local nets are permitted as well as self spotting, prearranged QSOs (skeds), etc. Just about anything goes (legally) to promote activity. I am going for my 15th win in this contest, which will keep me in the lead for the most wins in a 10-10 contest. I would really appreciate your help to win this contest again to keep me on top (my closest competitor is N2EOC with 10 wins). Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments regarding this contest. (Oh, and please cross-post this announcement to other reflectors.) Until then as they say: "See You in the Contest!" Also, for you BVARC members, don't forget about the "contest within a contest". K0NM is coordinating this. Basically, all BVARC members with 10-10 numbers will gang up against ME. In other words, all BVARC members with 10-10 numbers will add their total QSOs and scores together to try to beat my total QSO count and score. Good Luck BVARCers! Allen R. Brier N5XZ #4530 Houston SHOT #159 (281) 342-1882 (Home) (713) 705-4801 (Cell)
