I find nvidia optimus also can`t be poweroff. Note only when "lspci | grep VGA" return (rev ff) means nvidia card has been shutdown. This problem may come from Debian , most of(may be all of) Debian based distribution have this problem. Fedora and Arch with bumblebee work fine on my laptop.

I find there was no /usr/lib/nvidia-current and /usr/lib/lib32/nvidia-current directory in my system. And bumbleebee can`t poweroff my nvidia card correctly automatically or manually. I think nvidia driver didn`t installed correctly. I can`t load nvidia module through modprobe nvidia. I find bumblebee package is 2 years not be updated for ubuntu 18.04. You may need to update it. My system version is 18.04 "lts". I tried to install bumblebee with proprietary driver.
