All, We need to do some emergency server moves next week starting on Tuesday. This is to help balance the power and cooling in the datacenter where these systems are located. Most of these moves can be done with little to no downtime for users, however there will be some users that will notice longer downtimes.
The biggest impact will be any users on any of the two NVMe (local storage) hypervisors. We are planning on moving those two systems on Tuesday, July 5th between 2-5pm PDT. Provided we have enough RAM available on all of the systems, we should be able to migrate most other users to unaffected systems as we make these changes. If not, we may end up shutting down the systems (and the VMs hosted on them) while we move the system as quickly as possible. There is always a possibility that something could go wrong so expect outages next week just in case. We'll be moving power distribution units, cables and so forth and we may accidentally pull the wrong cable. We always try but sometimes things happen. We will be doing these moves during the workday (PDT) throughout the week. I will try to send updates in case there are any unexpected outages if they happen. Thanks for your patience and support! -- Lance Albertson Director Oregon State University | Open Source Lab
