In general, I have not been considering anything but the microsoft toolchain on 
Windows when designing this (sorry about that!), but on the other hand, I 
*have* had in mind that it should be easy to change if we ever get to support 
some other toolchain on Windows.

One of the upcoming changes I am planning is to improve handling of import 
libraries. I can try to make it more "microsoft"-ish rather than "windows"-ish, 
but then again, there are a lot of Windows checks already, and if I can hook 
into them I probably will.
