The first question is if qemu has a MIPS model that supports multicore. 
Hopefully qemu multicore mips  is supported on the malta machine model. RTEMS 
has a BSP for this but you would need to ensure it operates proper single core 
before moving to SMP.

If you have done the hello world task, then I would recommending building RTEMS 
tools for the MIPS and test the Malta BSP on qemu. If you want to do this, you 
have to have a working MIPS environment and baseline to work with.
