A couple of months ago I posted a temporary workaround for what seems
to be a similar problem of not being able to upgrade OpenBSD on the
amd64 MacBooks due to bsd.rd [and bsd] stopping at the sd0: line. See
https://marc.info/?l=openbsd-bugs&m=172645193101111&w=2.
I have a 2017 MacBook Air with the same firmware number as yours. The
downside to reverting to acpi.c 1.433 besides having to make ones own
release [following release manpage and FAQ documentation] which takes
about a day on the i5 MacBook Air is that acpi.c is stuck at 1.433 and
that as current gets further away from that (I think acpi.c is up to
1.439 now) one may start to run into dependencies of those subsequent
acpi changes in other parts of the system. I made another release
today to see if it would still work. I was able to boot and complete
the upgrade but my usb axen0 ethernet did not display in dmesg as it
had automatically before and I needed to unplug and replug the dongle
for it to be recognized. I think we are now in the you're on your own
territory. It seems the arm based Mac systems are getting more
attention currently. I am still hopeful that someone with more
knowledge will find the problem interesting, but I have no
expectations as developer time and resources are limited.
