when running /usr/bin/newsyslog (the binary ran by the root crontab
to keep the logs rotated), the following errors were outputted:
newsyslog: /etc/newsyslog.conf:6: unknown group wheel --> skipping
newsyslog: /etc/newsyslog.conf:7: unknown group wheel --> skipping
This was simply caused by the group name being Wheel instead of
wheel in /etc/group or, if this is intentional, then it is caused by the
lowercase wheel in /etc/newsyslog.conf
>How-To-Repeat:
run newsyslog command and note the error
>Fix:
Either update /etc/group for the group name to wheel (this could
have multiple problems depending on how other tools access this group)
or, simply edit the /etc/newsyslog.conf file to change the group
name on line 6 and 7 from Wheel to wheel. (I did this)
