It has not been proposed as far as I remember. I am not sure what the problem is with an "XSI:ism" or what exactly that is, but it would be fine to commit this in the sake of readability after the release.
Some kind of description is here [1], but AFAICT it does not really tell, that using number arguments is deprecated. It just says "XSI-conformant systems also allow numeric signal numbers for the conditions corresponding to the following signal names", which gives the idea that this is a subset.
