Ah, I fixed it. I was trying to find the maxima.aux file to see what was
in it. I'm building in the es directory (for Spanish, as you guessed) and
for some reason, the texi2dvi output said it was loading es/../maxima.aux.
I removed that file and now everything is working again.
I have no idea why it does that or how it got into that state, especially
since the English version (in es/..) builds just fine. This is something
to take up on Maxima's mailling list.
