I don't know whether it is a bug of texinf or the Mew package.
But it seem it is more likely your bug, not the Mew.It's a bug in Texinfo, and I believe it's already fixed. If you like, please try the latest pretest from http://alpha.gnu.org/texinfo. Thanks for the report.
