Hi Mateo,

Thanks for the detailed recipe.  Bisecting shows that the bug was
introduced two years ago, by commit 66be5a789e.  I'll see how to
fix it.  In the meantime, use the --no-seek option, e.g.:

  (dd status=none ibs=4k skip=1 count=0 && tar --no-seek -t)
