I think I found a bug, or I am doing something dumb and not realizing it. I am using gnu-tar version 1.35 on mac os installed via homebrew.
I ran 'env GZIP=-9 gtar cvzf /otherdir/my.tar.gz .' and I can tell by the output and file size that it was referencing directory links. My reading of the docs says this shouldn't be the case it should just copy the directory link unless I specify an option. Thanks for the help or any gentle correction, Blaine -- -- N.
