Hey Paul. No, that's a very similar, but different bug. I did use that commit 
as a reference for making my patch though!

Hasn't this performance bug already been fixed in GNU Tar, here?

Please try GNU Tar 1.35, which has this fix. If it doesn't work for you,
please let us know.
