[Bug-tar] how to overcome this error

hi,
     i am using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS version
     in there the default media player is Totem
     while i am trying to open the mp3 files in Totem its showing the
decoders are not available.
 
   so i download the decoder provided by xine-ui0.99.5.tar.gz
   But i am not able to compile that i really know how to overcome this

 i am really in agony
how i would overcome this
