Dear GNU Community,

Suggestion: Please add a list of supported file systems to the users manual.

Details:

I am running Ubuntu 10.04LTS and the accompanying man page for parted (and
the man page found at die.net for that matter) contains the statement "ext3
filesystem functionality does not currently work". Is this still the
case? The parted version I have is version 2.2 and the man page is 2007
March 29. However, a web search come up with conflicting results. For
example, I found this version of the GNU Parted manual which states that
ext3 IS supported:
http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/manual/html_chapter/parted_6.html

Nevertheless, the latest available version of the GNU Parted manual does
not seem contain any list of file systems supported by GNU parted. This
information would be very useful were it to appear in an authoritative
place, such as in an official GNU manual . It would also be useful to
indicate version in which working support of ext3 was added to parted.
That might help to induce someone who needs ext3 to upgrade their copy of
parted to a version that supports it.

Perhaps the info page ought to be updated as well and propagated to all
distributions.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to provide this feedback.

Sincerely,

Allan W. Macdonald
