Hi,
I was trying to get the kernel reread the status of the disks in one raid controller after creating a new arrray. I erroneously thought partprobe would do that. But running it had a nasty side affect: It probed a different array in another controller which had a GPFS filesystem and had no partition table, but was in the past partitioned with parted. It mentioned that it found a backup partition table, and then overwrote the current partition table with the one from the backup.
The result was 15 days spend trying to recover the GPFS filesystem as it did not like at all having its own data overwritten.
Is that expected behavior? I would not thought that a probe program would do anything involving writing to a disks partition table?
I am using parted-1.6.19-19.EL.x86_64 on rhel 4 cheers -- ============================================================================= Dimitris Zilaskos GridAUTH Operations Centre @ Aristotle University of Thessaloniki , Greece Tel: +302310998988 Fax: +302310994309 http://www.grid.auth.gr ============================================================================= _______________________________________________ bug-parted mailing list bug-parted@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-parted
