Hi list, Here's the partition table of my external drive:
GNU Parted 1.8.9 Using /dev/sde Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands. (parted) print Model: Maxtor OneTouch II (scsi) Disk /dev/sde: 300GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 32.3kB 10.0GB 10.0GB primary ext3 2 10.0GB 30.0GB 20.0GB primary fat32 3 30.0GB 60.0GB 30.0GB primary ext3 4 60.0GB 300GB 240GB extended 5 60.0GB 120GB 60.0GB logical ext3 6 120GB 180GB 60.0GB logical I've created the new logical partition 6 using parted no problem, but when I go to put an ext3 filesystem on it I get the following warning and error message: (parted) mkfs 6 ext3 Warning: The existing file system will be destroyed and all data on the partition will be lost. Do you want to continue? parted: invalid token: 6 Yes/No? no (parted) It's the 'invalid token' bit that I'm worried about. If parted doesn't know which partition I'm talking about I stand to lose an awful lot of data! Is it safe for me to continue?
