The kernel thinks this is a 1GiB card (the units in partitions are 1KiB
blocks). Presumably it previously had a partition table that made sdc1 a
2GiB partition (the kernel allows this but as you saw spits "attempt to
access beyond end of device" messages when any I/O is submitted for the
nonexistant regions).

Since your phone agrees that it's a 1GiB card it sounds like you have a
mislabelled SD card - this isn't that unusual as there are unfortunately
a lot of fake and re-labelled cards floating around. I would return it
to the retailer and ask for a refund or replacement.
