Greetings, Long time user, first time poster :-)
My scripted installer use parted to partition up the disks nicely but I'm experiencing a bit of strange behavior. I have two different machines: 1) A dell 2950 with a PERC 5i controller which has 4, 500GB sata disks on the backend (I have a mix of western digital and seagate drives). 2) A rackable c2004 host with a silicon image sata controller and 4 disks (a mix like the dell above). I'm using Fedora Linux (core 6) as my platform and grub as my boot manager currently. My disk layout looks like this (from the Dell): -bash-3.1# parted -s /dev/sda print Model: DELL PERC 5/i (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 500GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 32.3kB 512MB 512MB primary ext3 raid 2 512MB 8704MB 8192MB primary linux-swap raid 3 8704MB 59.9GB 51.2GB primary ext3 raid 4 59.9GB 500GB 440GB primary raid All 4 disks (sdb, sdc, sdd) are laid out the same as I am using MD software raid 1 across all 4 disks. Now, if I set the boot flag on the first partition (which is /boot) the system refuses to boot after initializing the controller. The rackable host doesn't have this issue so I suspect the PERC is doing something strange. Has anybody else seen this behavior?
