dansguardian from source.  If I were you, I'd be looking in
/var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog for any error message produced when
you try to start the dansguardian service, then googling for help with
that.  This mailing list won't be able to help you.  This mailing list
is for bugs in the make program.  There's no evidence of such a bug
here.
