Thanks for the report. However, you failed to tell us what the error actually was (you did a tail of too few lines of the output), or even on what platform you are attempting to compile. There are known reports of errors on GNU/Linux systems, with some kernel versions failing readlinkat tests, and failure to compile with newer glibc due to a gnulib misuse of gets(); both of these are fixed in m4.git and I hope to release a new version of m4 before the year is out to make it easier to access these fixes.
