Hi Eugene, You could substitute \markup \null for \markup { }
Alternatively, you could use \markup \vspace #1 (or whatever value). I'm not sure that it is a bug--the notation says to me "make no markup," whatever LilyPond did in the past. Anyway, for the purposes of the bug list, you should formulate your demonstration as a very short inline code snippet.
