I normally download source tarballs for LilyPond from
http://download.linuxaudio.org/lilypond/sources/v2.17/, but the 2.17.4
tarball appears to be missing.
Was the source tarball generated but not uploaded to the server?

I was aware of this. It was not generated and therefore was not uploaded.
There's a problem with the GUB build which means that some parts of it
need to be run manually and I hadn't noticed this until I tried to
download the tarball. I'm going to look at GUB today to try to work out
what's going wrong.
TBH I didn't do a manual generation and upload because I wondered whether
anyone would notice! Congratulations. I'll see if I can repeat the
manual upload.
