Looking at Jakub's response to you, it appears that he is in favor of moving to non-buggy compilers, with which I agree. But we don't currently have a non-buggy 4.6.x compiler, so that's not an option. And we have a flag that will make the compiler work.

So I agree with taking the architecture check out of your patch. And I agree with continuing to keep the check as a version check, rather than using his test program.

Once his patch gets accepted and released, we can require a fixed version if we want.

In short, I agree with your proposed fix.
