Carl, my fix to issue 1723 changes the code for beams above rests.
I thought that bug might explain the difficulties you had earlier, but
after looking I don't see any link.
I expect no merge problems or other interaction with your patch, but I'm
mentioning the other patch just in case it causes you trouble that I didn't
foresee.
