Chords may positioned over notes / rests / lyric syllables (absence of notes).
Chords may also be positioned over beats (no note / rest / syllable). In this case, for instance, a whole note may be shown in a 4/4 measure and a chord appears over the second beat of that same measure. In each positioning case, the chord symbol and/or diagram may be left/center/right justified over the positioning entity. I could not find tests that verify correct chord positioning.
