The LilyPond output of midi2ly conforms to a particular version of LilyPond, which is written into the \version "x.xx.xx" in its LilyPond output.
In theory, if midi2ly was not updated for a while, its output might need to be run through convert-ly before a modern LilyPond could use it. In practice, however, I have never seen convert-ly make any changes to the midi2ly output.
