There is no way to make lilypond do in-place "expansions", unless somebody
steps up to write some sort of a macro expansion system.
the \\ construct is processed when the \score { } block is created, so in
bla = << .. \\ .. >>
voiceOne = {
% XX
..}
bar = << .. \\ .. >>
\score { { \bla\bar } }
the settings of XX will affect both \bar and \bla.
