This was reported (and fairly documented) by Francisco a while back:

Currently when you have something like
<< { c''4 r } \\ { r c'' } >>
you can see that the rests are not centered with the notehead in the other
voice.
Francisco has provided us with some scans; as you can see, Peters does
center rests in such situations.
