I downloaded the lilypond-2.12.3-1.darwin-ppc.tar.bz2 archive and tried to launch the application created after decompression. The application just fails to launch with the error message I posted.
The machine is a Powerbook G4 12" 867 MHz running Panther (10.3.9) with all system updates installed and no hacks.
