http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=991 It would be nice to include propert-init.ly in the documentation, maybe as a Notation appendix, maybe as an Extending appendix, etc. It shouldn't be too hard with @includeverbatim. For a lot more work, somebody could parse it and produce texinfo code, probably with a python script. Then we could do the whole literate programming thing. Or maybe we could extend the system for the Internals to apply to the init files somehow?
