I tested with both Evince and Acroread 9 too and I agree with you for
Evince but I also can see a difference with Acroread 9.
Actually there is approx the same difference between test1 and test2
with 100 % zoom as with Evince (no more true with 400 % zoom).

That's also true with Acroread 9 linux (official deb package) version.
But with evince 2.28.1 test1 is still very slightly thicker than test2
at 400 % (hardly noticeable).

Don't think a user poll is necessary.
I mean, I'm a simple user and I trust devs to take the right decision.
If as a user I'm not happy with something I'll come and complaint
about it...
