Thanks, I looked at gitk and that was helpful. The GUI itself seems to be
passive,
that is you cannot (at least I couldn't see how) to select a commit form
the past and
'roll back' to it.
I did do a git format-patch origin and here's the thing you could answer me
perhaps.
When I end up in the editor after the commit, and I put in the text I then
tend to
^O to write out the changes
I then get asked to put a file name and I have a default of something like
.git/EDITMESSAGE (or something similar). I hit return and then ^X to exit.
After the format-patch I then expect to see a file beginning with 0001 or
0002 etc.
and this is the patch.
However the last couple of times nothing has happened and I got back to the
prompt.
What I realise that I did now was undo the changes rather that properly do
a revert
HEAD - I cannot remember the commands I used.
A git revert HEAD^ seemed to do the trick but it generated two patch files
that were
identical in size (but not the one I sent you) and seemed to contain the
diffs - I
took a quick look inside to be sure, but when I 'diff' the two files
themselves, they
were not the same...so I couldn't trust either of them with my still lack of
experience and thought 'sod it'.
So I re-did my edits as new.
:)
I know, more work for me, but hey it all helps to make you get it right the
first
time. I've been going through the Wiki on GIT and the various manuals, it
looks
simple enough, but I'm just running commands without really understanding
what they
do and while that works when it works, when something doesn't work then I
get stuck
and I don't want to P!ss you off by asking this when I can RTFM.
Anyway, here's what I hope is the patch.
