It would also make sense to have an option to allow automatic beaming
across rests
when a note instead of a rest would be beamed. With some syncopated
rhythms, this
makes the structure better recognizable when notes are interspersed with
rests only
semi-regularly.
Treating rests and notes more similarly, at least optionally, can be a
benefit.
