Greetings, and sorry for the delay.

Porting LilyPond to Mac OS 10.5 has been really painful for the past
couple of years (we recently had a breakthrough, but it's not
officially implemented yet).

First of all, I hope you know how LilyPond works: all it does is take
a text file, written with a special syntax, and turn it into a music
score. So, basically, all you need is some kind of a text editor. We
(try to) ship one with LilyPond, but it's a very limited one; there
are much better editors out there, to begin with jEdit (which has a
special LilyPondTool plugin) and Smultron (which has native support
for coloring LilyPond code).

What I'd do is to follow the instructions on
http://ivo.bouwmans.name/lilypondleopard/
either with Smultron or jEdit/LilyPondTool (Smultron is lighter, but
less powerful when it comes to LilyPond code).

I hope that you haven't been discouraged by this bad first experience
with LilyPond; once again, we're hoping to fix this Apple
compatibility problem very soon.

Regards,
Valentin
