To get the behaviour you want, use \override Score.RehearsalMark #'break-align-symbols = #'(time-signature) \override Score.RehearsalMark #'self-alignment-X = #-1 (note break-align-symbols, not break-align-symbol) I think that, by default, lilypond will align things to the left side of a time-signature. If it doesn't, you can add \override Staff.TimeSignature #'break-align-anchor-alignment = #LEFT If you have places in your score with RehearsalMarks but without a time signature, you can do something like \override Score.RehearsalMark #'break-align-symbols = #'(time-signature clef staff-bar) and the RehearsalMark will fall back to aligning on a clef or a bar-line if the time-signature is not there.
