Hi,

I think this is the intended behaviour, at least it has been this way at least 
since 2.4. Do you have evidence that lily's behaviour is incorrect (i.e., 
well-engraved editions which clearly show that syllables should be placed 
below main notes)?

BTW, if you really want syllables to be aligned to main notes, and you don't 
want to wait, you can always turn off automatic melismata for slurs, and pad 
the lyric voice with skips where appropriate.
