there is various oddness going on. I have plans on how to replace the part-combiner, but this will need the stuff that Eric is working on for his master's thesis. FWIW, a patch was posted to the list a few weeks ago by Kristof Bastiaensen which rewrote the PC. You could try if that patch works for you.
