It might be worth asking them about this particular issue as well.
I didn't send it yet. I postponed that job after developing the DMA
workaround for the i440fx chipset. That patch has now been deployed
which gives me the confidence the method is appropriate. I know little
enough of Hurd let alone NetBSD so don't want to make a fool of myself.
I read somewhere on netbsd's mailing list archives that they
have to use -M q35 as well for qemu to work correctly (which
basically bypasses the piix3 ide controller).
I have booted NetBSD successfully using i440fx on qemu. The disk seems
to function normally although I haven't run substantial testing.
