I once sent one of these critical/mean emails to this email list before too (sorry Samuel that my ire was once directed toward you. I was being a complete little sh*t at the time).
Jeffrey probably is just really interested in the project, and he probably let his enthusiasm carry him a bit away. Jeffrey building/maintaining/developing an operating system is one of the *hardest* software challenges. Most of the Hurd developers do it for fun and are not paid for their work. If you find something that is not working, then great! Please send a software patch our way! You will probably get more help, if you speak gently and kindly.
