Hello,

I'm Siyuan Liu, a junior student from China who is interested in Hurd very
much and would like to participate in GSoC 2016 and make contributions to
the Hurd.

Personally, I enjoy operating system programming very much. When I was a
sophomore, I wrote a toy operating system (i386/protected mode) to help
myself better understand concepts and practices of operating systems. It
was at that time that I found Hurd very interesting and was about to
participate in the development of Hurd, but I was just too busy with my
coursework to make a real step.

Now that I am a junior and want to participate in GSoC 2016, I'm looking
toward to working on a real project and learning expertise from the most
talented programmers. And immediately, Hurd comes to my mind.

After scanning through the "project ideas" page on the Hurd site, I find
the "GNU Mach code cleanup" and "physical memory management" tasks attract
me most. I would like to make GSoC proposals from these ideas and am
looking forward to hearing some comments from you.

Last but not least, if time permits, I would like to make contributions to
Hurd as well even if I'm not selected in GSoC :-)

Thank you!

The source code of my toy operating system is hosted on GitHub

Sincerely,
Siyuan Liu
