(Although the LZMA algorithm itself has been in use for a couple of years in 7zip...) My remark probably was actually a bit premature: I fear xz-utils are not yet easily available in stable distributions; so people might have trouble reading .xz file if you send them out... Of course it's fine for private backups, which you only need to read yourself :-) -antrik-
